Shares of IDFC Bank (down 3.95 per cent), HDFC Bank (down 3.89 per cent), ICICI Bank (down 1.73 per cent), Kotak Mahindra Bank (down 1.61 per cent) and IndusInd Bank (down 0.43 per cent) were the top losers in the index.
While
(up 3.04 per cent), Punjab National Bank (up 2.07 per cent), (up 1.5 per cent), Bandhan Bank (up 0.98 per cent) and Axis Bank (up 0.45 per cent) were among the top gainers.
The Nifty Bank index was trading 1.62 per cent down at 33327.15 around 02:53PM.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 129.00 points at 14716.1, while the BSE Sensex was down 527.37 points at 49609.21.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 25 were trading in the green, while 25 were in the red.
