Stock market holiday: Is the stock market closed tomorrow?

NEW DELHI: Equity, currency and commodity derivatives markets will be closed for trading on Friday, April 2, as the Street and the nation will observe Good Friday. This, along with weekly offs on Saturday and Sunday, will turn into an extended weekend for market participants.

The bourses will reopen for trading on April 5, Monday.

This month would have two other market holidays — April 14 on account of Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti and April 21 on observation of Ram Navami.

Calendar year 2021 has 14 scheduled market holidays, including six extended weekends because of a holiday falling either on Friday or Monday, data compiled from BSE suggests.

On Thursday, metal stocks shone and financials were under spotlight lifting benchmark indices higher ahead of the long weekend. Huge infra spending plan of the US, superb GST numbers and capital infusion by the government in four PSU banks boosted the morale of investors.

The 30-share pack Sensex advanced 520.68 points, or 1.05 per cent, to close at 50,029.83. Its broader peer NSE Nifty climbed 176.65 points, or 1.20 per cent, to 14,867.35. Analysts remain bullish on the market move.

“The bullish trajectory is likely to continue for the index and ‘buy on dips’ should be the strategy for day traders. Short-term traders should continue with their longs for 15,200,” said Kaushlendra Singh Sengar Founder & CEO at INVEST19.

Market breadth was in favour of gainers as 2,137 stocks ended in the green, while 752 names settled with cuts. As many as 158 securities hit 52-week highs, mostly from the smallcap space. Meanwhile, 50 names hit 52-week lows, mostly from the microcap space. About 430 stocks hit upper circuit limits and 209 lower circuit limits.
