Shares of Vedanta (down 3.3 per cent), Tata Steel (down 3.01 per cent), Hindustan Zinc (down 2.99 per cent), Steel Authority of India (down 2.88 per cent) and Jindal Steel & Power (down 2.55 per cent) were the top losers in the index.
While Adani Enterprises (up 2.98 per cent), APL Apollo Tubes (up 2.58 per cent), Ratnamani Metals & Tubes (up 0.26 per cent) and NMDC (up 0.14 per cent) were among the top gainers.
The Nifty Metal index was trading 1.57 per cent down at 4424.4 around 02:35PM.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 46.50 points at 14827.3, while the BSE Sensex was down 145.22 points at 49600.99.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 18 were trading in the green, while 32 were in the red.
Shares of PNB, Vodafone Idea, Tata Motors, IDFC First Bank and SAIL were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Prince Pipes, JSW Energy, Cadila Healthcare, SterlingWilson Solar and Cipla hit their fresh 52 week high in today’s trade, while SecUR Credentials Ltd., Global Education Ltd., Marine Electricals (India) Ltd. and Radha Madhav Corporation Ltd. hit fresh 52 week low in trade.
