Domestic equity benchmarks began Wednesday’s session on a weak note amid selling pressure in financial stocks, especially private sector lenders, and IT counters.
The S&P BSE Sensex index fell as much as 325.12 points to 48,836.69 in the first few minutes of trade and the broader NSE Nifty 50 benchmark slid to as low as 14,774.15, shedding 76.6 points from its previous close.
HDFC was the top percentage laggard in the Nifty50 pack, trading 1.79 per cent lower. M&M, HUL,
, and Nestle were among other losers.
On the other hand, NTPC was the top gainer, up 3.37 per cent. Power Grid,
, ONGC and Indian Oil were among other gainers.
