ICICI Direct extends global investing services to Japan, UK, Singapore markets

MUMBAI: Brokerage firm ICICI Direct has extended its services that allow customers to invest abroad beyond the US market. The brokerage’s customers will now be able to buy and sell investment instruments in Japan, Hong Kong, the UK, Singapore and Germany.

This facility is offered in association with Interactive Brokers, a US-based online brokerage firm. The entire customer journey, from on-boarding to buying and selling of securities, is completely digital, the brokerage firm said in a press statement.

Earlier, ICICI Direct only offered its customers services to invest in the US equity market directly through its online and physical platforms.

“Since the encouraging response to our global investment facility for the US markets in August 2020, customers have been demanding for other markets too,” said Anupam Guha, head of private wealth management at

The brokerage firm has over 5.5 million customers on its platform.

Currently, Indians can invest up to $250,000 in international markets under a liberalized remittance scheme, which allows them to get exposure to stocks of international companies.
