The Dow Jones industrial average gave up initial gains after a positive start on Tuesday as investors stepped back ahead of key inflation data later in the week, while the Nasdaq got a boost from a rise in Tesla’s shares.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 57.86 points, or 0.17%, to 34,572.38 in early deals. The S&P 500 was down 1.51 point, or 0.04%, at 4,225.01.
The tech stocks-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose 78.90 points, or 0.57%, to 13,960.62.
