The meeting will take place on June 22, from 11 am to 1 pm, and will include stakeholders including ICAI, auditors, consultants and taxpayers.
The new portal has been fraught with several technical glitches/issues leading to taxpayer inconvenience.
“Representatives from Infosys team will be present to answer queries, clarify issues and receive inputs on the working of the portal, to remove glitches and sort out issues faced by the taxpayers,” the ministry said in a statement Tuesday.
Written representations on the problems/difficulties faced in the portal have also been invited from the stakeholders.
Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman had called on the technology provider to resolve “grievances and glitches” with the new income tax electronic filing portal after users complained they were unable to access the site.
The portal was launched on Monday last week but users complained that they were unable to log in to the new income tax portal after several attempts, couldn’t download the 26AS form and also faced problems with registering digital signature certificates.
Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani had said that the company was addressing the glitches and that the system will stabalise during the week.
“The new e-filing portal will ease the filing process and enhance end user experience,” he had said.
The new portal has several new features, including a call centre for immediate resolution of taxpayer queries, FAQs, tutorials, videos and a chatbot or live agent to address queries. The new portal will also process returns and issue refunds immediately.
A new tax payment system will also be launched on June 18 after the advance tax instalment deadline. This will enable payments on the site itself and feature free software to enable tax return preparation. Fields will be pre-filled with data such as salary income, interest, dividend and capital gains after tax deducted at source (TDS) details and the statement of financial transaction (SFT) are uploaded, the due date for which is June 30.
Income tax officials will interact with taxpayers via e-proceedings through the new portal. Officers will also use it for all communications including issuing show cause notices and getting responses to various e-proceedings.
