New Delhi: Homegrown FMCG major Dabur has become the first company to do away with paper cartons for toothpastes as the clamour for sustainable living grows louder among consumers.

In addition, Dabur is also rolling out a carton-free low unit price (LUP) pack for rural India. Dabur’s move follows in the footsteps of companies such as Unilever, which introduced similar practices such as removing plastic layers from Dove soap boxes and cutting down on single-use plastic in Ponds talc packaging.

“This pilot initiative has been rolled out in response to this consumer feedback,” said Rajeev John, VP (marketing – personal care) at Dabur. This move is expected to result in an annual saving of 150 tonnes of paper.
