The S&P BSE Sensex index rose 392.92 points or 0.75 per cent to close at 52,699 and the broader NSE Nifty50 benchmark gained 103.5 points to settle at 15,790.45. However, smallcap and midcap indices ended with cuts, underperforming the headline gauges.
Stellar performances by the debutants and solid buoyancy in the sugar counters stole the show. The OFS-bound Orchid Pharma and Munjal Showa fell 10 per cent and 9 per cent, respectively.

GAINERS
Sona BLW Precision Forgings: The latest debutant on the bourses hit the upper circuit, delivering a total return of 25 per cent on the day of listing. Settling at Rs 362.85, the stock was in demand on the back of the electric vehicle (EV) theme gaining momentum.
Sugar stocks: Shares in the agro commodity sector were back in focus. The demand-supply situation and favourable government policies have pushed another leg of bounce in sugar counters. Uttam Sugar Mills and Avadh Sugar jumped 20 per cent each to Rs 201.90 and Rs 427.10, respectively. Dalmia Bharat Sugar rallied 17 per cent to Rs 454.20.
R Systems International: The IT consulting and software company has announced June 28 as the record date for its dividend. The company has announced a dividend of Rs 2.50 per share for each share with a face value of one rupee each. The counter settled at Rs 164.50, up 16 per cent.
KRBL: The Indian rice processing and exporting company surged 7 per cent to Rs 257.45. The company’s board will meet to consider and approve the results for the March 2021 quarter, and any dividend for shareholders.
Indiabulls Real Estate: Shares of the realty firm jumped 5 per cent to Rs 121.90 on Thursday on the buzz of a big renowned private equity fund buying stake in the company. However, the reports were not verified.
LOSERS
Orchid Pharma: Shares of the pharma firm tanked 10 per cent to Rs 1,187.85 on Thursday after the company’s offer-for-sale (OFS) opened for subscription. The promoters are selling the shares at a steep discount of 72 per cent to the last closing price.
Munjal Showa: Shares of the auto ancillary firm shed 9 per cent to Rs 151.95 on Thursday, after the company reported a 43.93 per cent decline in net profit to Rs 5.82 crore for the quarter ended March 2021.
Schneider Electric Infrastructure: Shares of the electric equipment firm tanked as much as 7 per cent to Rs 120.70 on Thursday after the company posted a net loss of Rs 11.25 crore for the quarter ended March.
: The construction firm reported a 49.48 per cent decline in net profit to Rs 157.28 crore for the fourth quarter of the last financial year. HCC shares ended the session at Rs 13.03.
Adani Power, Adani Total Gas: Adani Group stocks continued to witness a downfall that started last week. Adani Power and Adani Total Gas fell 5 per cent each to Rs 120.50 and Rs 1,251.85, respectively.
