sensex and nifty today: Sensex gains in early trade, Nifty above 15,850; L&T, Infosys rise up to 2%

NEW DELHI: Domestic equity benchmarks started Thursday’s session on a strong note amid broad-based gains across sectors.

The S&P BSE Sensex index rose as much as 140 points to touch 53,044.01 in the first few minutes of trade, and the broader NSE Nifty50 benchmark climbed to as high as 15,886.75, up 33 points from its previous close.

L&T was the top Nifty50 gainer in early deals, up 1.90 per cent.

, , and DRL were among other blue-chip top performers.

On the other hand, ONGC was the top laggard, down 1.90 per cent. Asian Paints, Titan, HDFC and NTPC were among other losers.
gained 0.35 per cent in early trade after reporting its Q1 earnings post market hours.

Equities in other Asian markets were trading mixed in early trade. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up by 0.30 per cent.

Overnight on Wall Street, the three benchmark indices ended mostly higher. Dow Jones added 0.13% to 34,933.23, while S&P500 gained 0.12% to 4,374.30. Nasdaq shed 0.22% to 14,644.95

Meanwhile, in the oil market, crude prices extends losses with Brent futures down 44 cents, or 0.6 per cent, to $74.32 a barrel while US WTI crude for August was at $72.61 a barrel, down 52 cents, or 0.7 per cent.
