Shares of Alkem Laboratories (up 2.91 per cent), Divis Laboratories (up 1.05 per cent), Lupin (up 0.58 per cent), Biocon (up 0.51 per cent) and Dr Reddys Laboratories (up 0.24 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Aurobindo Pharma (down 1.07 per cent), Torrent Pharmaceuticals (down 0.72 per cent), Cadila Healthcare (down 0.68 per cent) and Cipla (down 0.32 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 0.24 per cent up at 14669.9.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 171.0 points at 15752.4, while the BSE Sensex stood down 586.66 points at 52553.4.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 8 ended in the green, while 42 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, NALCO, YES Bank, Ibull Real Estate and Tata Power were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of G R Infraprojects Ltd., Clean Science & Technology Ltd., Pearl Global, Archies Ltd and Datamatics Glob hit their fresh 52-week highs in today’s trade, while Walpar Nutritions Ltd., AKG Exim Ltd., Suryoday Small Finance Bank Ltd. and OCL Iron Steel hit their fresh 52-week lows.
