On the other hand, Cadila Healthcare (down 2.66 per cent), Cipla (down 1.94 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (down 1.86 per cent), Biocon (down 1.74 per cent) and Alkem Laboratories (down 1.54 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 1.3 per cent down at 14479.2.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 120.3 points at 15632.1, while the BSE Sensex stood down 354.89 points at 52198.51.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 10 ended in the green, while 40 closed in the red.
