Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 31.6 points down at 15824.45 amid selling in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Walpar Nutritions Ltd., Rajvir Ind, PVP Ventures Ltd., Keerti Knowledge and AKG Exim Ltd., touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 21 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 29 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, SBI Life, Bajaj Finserv, Hindalco, Divis Labs and UltraTech Cem. were among top gainers during the day, while JSW Steel, Wipro, RIL, SBI and M&M ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 123.53 points down at 52852.27.
Traders piled up positions in Learning & Education, Fertilisers, Rubber, Diversified and Metals – Ferrous sectors, while selling was witnessed in Petrochemicals, Beverages – Alcoholic, IT Enabled Services, Trading and Industrial Equipment sectors during the day.
