Shares of Torrent Pharmaceuticals (up 2.73 per cent), Divis Laboratories (up 2.07 per cent), Aurobindo Pharma (up 1.07 per cent) and Biocon (up 0.57 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Cadila Healthcare (down 3.57 per cent), Cipla (down 2.54 per cent), Dr Reddys Laboratories (down 2.3 per cent), Lupin (down 0.78 per cent) and Alkem Laboratories (down 0.39 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 0.38 per cent down at 13964.75.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 37.05 points at 15709.4, while the BSE Sensex stood down 135.05 points at 52443.71.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 21 ended in the green, while 29 closed in the red.
