Shares of IndusInd Bank (up 3.45 per cent), Federal Bank (up 3.0 per cent), State Bank of India (up 2.67 per cent), Axis Bank (up 2.42 per cent) and ICICI Bank (up 1.32 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, RBLBANK (down 4.01 per cent), AU Small Finance Bank (down 1.94 per cent), Punjab National Bank (down 0.98 per cent) and IDFCBANK (down 0.29 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Bank index closed 1.43 per cent up at 35207.45.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 245.6 points at 16130.75, while the BSE Sensex stood up 872.73 points at 53823.36.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 44 ended in the green, while 6 closed in the red.
