sensex and nifty today: Sensex gains in early trade, Nifty tops 16,300; Voda Idea jumps 4%, Future group stocks plunge up to 10%

NEW DELHI: Domestic equity benchmarks started Monday’s session on a strong note amid buying interest in financial and IT stocks.

The S&P BSE Sensex index rose as much as 215 points to touch 54,492.81 in the first few minutes of trade, and the broader NSE Nifty50 benchmark climbed to as high as 16,304.20, up 65 points from its previous close.

was the top Nifty50 gainer in early deals, up 2.72 per cent. HCL Tech, Wipro, Shree Cement and Infosys were among other blue-chip top performers.

On the other hand, ONGC was the top laggard, down 0.90 per cent. , Reliance, Tata Consumer and Kotak Bank were among other losers.
shares jumped 4 per cent, while Future group stocks plunged up to 10 per cent in early trade.

Equities in other Asian markets were trading mixed. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was down by 0.36 per cent.

On Wall Street, the three benchmark indices on Friday ended mixed. Dow Jones gained 0.41% to 35,208.51, while S&P 500 added 0.17% to 4,436.52. Nasdaq shed 0.40% to 14,835.76

Meanwhile, in the oil market, crude prices slumped on on China travel curbs with Brent futures down $1.41, or 2 per cent, to $69.29 a barrel. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell $1.32, or 1.9 per cent, to $66.96 a barrel.
