Talks of Fed tapering returned to spook markets globally towards the later part of the week gone by, and India was no exception. The weakness, especially in the broader markets, was significant, as investors booked profit fearing more pain ahead. Surely market valuations are rich compared with long-term averages, and recent listings by D-Street debutants weren’t promising, which has been weighing on retail sentiment. Investors are unsure whether they should treat any weakness as an opportunity to buy stocks.
Amit Mudgill of ETMarkets.com caught up with Harshad Patwardhan, Executive Vice President & CIO Equities at Edelweiss Asset Management, to understand how the beginning of Fed taper would influence the domestic market. Patwardhan says the impact of Fed taper this time would not be as harsh as 2013. He sees no significant pain in the market after the Fed actually begins tapering.
