Sensex and Nifty today: Sensex gains in early trade, Nifty above 16,550; Cadila Healthcare surges 5%, Voda Idea 4%

NEW DELHI: Domestic equity benchmarks started Monday’s session on a strong note amid buying interest across sectors.

The S&P BSE Sensex index rose as much as 452 points to touch 55,781.17 in the first few minutes of trade, and the broader NSE Nifty50 benchmark climbed to as high as 16,592.50, up 142 points from its previous close.

was the top Nifty50 gainer in early deals, up 1.70 per cent. Tata Steel, HCL Tech, JSW Steel and were among other blue-chip top performers.

On the other hand, Tata Consumer Products was the top laggard, down 0.80 per cent. Power Grid, Britannia, and were among other losers.
Healthcare surged 5 per cent, while Vodafone Idea added 4 per cent in early trade.

Equities in other Asian markets gained in early trade.

On Wall Street, the three benchmark indices rose as Fed jitters wane. Dow Jones rose 0.65% to 35,120.08, while S&P 500 jumped 0.81% to 4,441.67. Nasdaq rallied 1.19% to 14,714.66

Meanwhile, in the oil market, crude prices rebounded with Brent futures up 60 cents, or 0.9%, to $65.78 a barrel by 0158 GMT, after hitting the lowest level since May 21 of $64.60 earlier in the session. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures for October rose 53 cents, or 0.9%, to $62.67 a barrel, recovering from $61.74, the lowest since May 21, touched in Asia’s early trade.
