The S&P BSE Sensex index rose as much as 261 points to touch 55,816.70 in the first few minutes of trade, and the broader NSE Nifty 50 benchmark climbed to as high as 16,585.25, up 89 points from its previous close.
was the top Nifty50 gainer in early deals, up 2.59 per cent. ONGC, Hindalco, NTPC and Tech Mahindra were among other blue-chip top performers.
On the other hand, Asian Paints was the top laggard, down 1.12 per cent. , HDFC, Kotak Bank and were among other losers.
Nalco jumped 5 per cent, while Ujjivan SFB gained 4 per cent in early trade.
Equities in other Asian markets gained in early trade. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up by 1.19 per cent.
Overnight on Wall Street, the three benchmark indices ended higher. Dow Jones rose 0.61% to 35,335.71, while S&P 500 jumped 0.85% to 4,479.53. Nasdaq rallied 1.55% to 14,942.65
Meanwhile, in the
market, crude prices rose with Brent futures up 66 cents, or 0.9%, to $69.41 a barrel by 0201 GMT, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures increased by 60 cents, or 0.9%, to $66.24 a barrel.
