The S&P BSE Sensex index fell as much as 90 points to touch 55,854.07 in the first few minutes of trade, and the broader NSE Nifty50 benchmark fell to as low as 16,611.15, down 23 points from its previous close.
was the top Nifty50 gainer in early deals, up 1.30 per cent. HDFC Life, Bajaj Finserv, Tata Consumer and HUL were among other blue-chip top performers.
On the other hand, Airtel was the top laggard, down 1.64 per cent. Power Grid, HDFC Bank, , SBI and Axis Bank were among other losers.
Equities in other Asian markets were trading mostly lower. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan declined 0.19 per cent.
Overnight on Wall Street, the benchmark indices hit record highs. Dow Jones added 0.11% to 35,405.50, while S&P 500 gained 0.22% to 4,496.19. Nasdaq climbed 0.15% to 15,041.86.
Meanwhile, in the market, crude prices fell with Brent futures down 45 cents, or 0.6%, at $71.80 a barrel by 0222 GMT, having risen 1.7% on Wednesday. US oil was down 55 cents, or 0.8%, at $67.81 a barrel, after gaining 1.2% in the previous session.
