Shares of Exide Industries (up 5.52 per cent), Tata Motors (up 2.77 per cent), Amara Raja Batteries (up 1.84 per cent), Bharat Forge (up 1.81 per cent) and Balkrishna Industries (up 1.52 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Mahindra & Mahindra (down 2.95 per cent), Maruti Suzuki (down 0.89 per cent), TIINDIA (down 0.47 per cent), Ashok Leyland (down 0.2 per cent) and Hero MotoCorp (down 0.04 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 0.09 per cent up at 10043.9.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 55.95 points at 17076.25, while the BSE Sensex stood down 214.18 points at 57338.21.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 25 ended in the green, while 25 closed in the red.

Shares of Zen Tech, RPG Life Sci, ABB Power, Indian Energy Exchg and Oberoi Realty hit their fresh 52-week highs in today’s trade, while Future Supply Chain, Rex Pipes and Cables Industries Ltd., Inventure Grwth and Network People Services Technologies Ltd. hit their fresh 52-week lows.
