Shares of Cipla (up 3.51 per cent), Aurobindo Pharma (up 2.32 per cent), Dr Reddys Laboratories (up 2.02 per cent), Alkem Laboratories (up 1.38 per cent) and Biocon (up 1.11 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Torrent Pharmaceuticals (down 0.77 per cent) and Divis Laboratories (down 0.71 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 0.97 per cent up at 14458.5.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 157.9 points at 17234.15, while the BSE Sensex stood up 514.33 points at 57852.54.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 36 ended in the green, while 14 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, Suzlon Energy, PNB and BHEL were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
