Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 89.45 points up at 17323.6 amid buying in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Nandani Creation, Grand Foundry, Servotech Power Syst, Inventure Grwth and Yuken India, touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 35 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 15 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, RIL, ONGC, Coal India Ltd, Indian Oil Corp. and Titan Company were among top gainers during the day, while HDFC Life, Cipla, HUL, Bharti Airtel and HDFC Bank ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 277.41 points up at 58129.95.
Traders piled up positions in Diversified, Learning & Education, Metals – Ferrous, Gems and Jewellery and Cables sectors, while selling was witnessed in IT – Hardware, Petrochemicals, Power, Agriculture/Horticulture/Livestock and Tea / Coffee sectors during the day.
