Maruti Suzuki (up 0.45 per cent), Bajaj Auto (up 0.24 per cent) and Eicher Motors (up 0.18 per cent) were among the top gainers.
Bharat Forge (down 2.02 per cent), Tata Motors (down 1.43 per cent), Bosch (down 1.05 per cent), Amara Raja Batteries (down 1.02 per cent) and Exide Industries (down 0.69 per cent) were the top losers on the index.
The Nifty Auto index was down 0.32 per cent at 10134.4 at the time of writing this report.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 52.65 points at 17325.15, while the BSE Sensex was down 66.99 points at 58229.92.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 15 were trading in the green, while 35 were in the red.
