TIINDIA (up 0.89 per cent), Tata Motors (up 0.71 per cent), Amara Raja Batteries (up 0.56 per cent), Bharat Forge (up 0.37 per cent) and Mahindra & Mahindra (up 0.32 per cent) were among the top gainers.
Eicher Motors (down 1.25 per cent), TVS Motor Company (down 1.25 per cent), Bajaj Auto (down 0.86 per cent), Maruti Suzuki (down 0.76 per cent) and Exide Industries (down 0.56 per cent) were the top losers on the index.
The Nifty Auto index was down 0.26 per cent at 10126.0 at the time of writing this report.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 5.55 points at 17356.55, while the BSE Sensex was down 51.19 points at 58228.29.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 25 were trading in the green, while 25 were in the red.
