Shares of Aurobindo Pharma (up 1.46 per cent), Divis Laboratories (up 1.26 per cent), Alkem Laboratories (up 1.2 per cent), Cadila Healthcare (up 0.94 per cent) and Lupin (up 0.68 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Torrent Pharmaceuticals (down 0.34 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (down 0.1 per cent) and Cipla (down 0.02 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 0.53 per cent up at 14487.9.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 139.45 points at 17519.45, while the BSE Sensex stood up 476.11 points at 58723.2.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 35 ended in the green, while 15 closed in the red.
