The S&P BSE Sensex index rose as much as 362 points to touch 59,503.04 in the first few minutes of trade, and the broader NSE Nifty50 benchmark climbed to as high as 17,729.05, up 99.55 points from its previous close.
SBI was the top Nifty50 gainer in early deals, up 1.49 per cent.
, SBI Life, and Eicher Motors were among other blue-chip top performers.
On the other hand, Tata Steel was the top laggard, down 0.71 per cent. , Cipla and Coal India were among other losers.
Equities in other Asian markets were trading mostly higher. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was down 0.06 per cent.
Overnight on Wall Street, the three benchmark indices settled mostly lower. Dow Jones declined 0.18% to 34,751.32, while S&P 500 slipped 0.16% to 4,4873.75. Nasdaq gained 0.13% to 15,181.92
Meanwhile, in the oil market, crude prices gained with Brent futures up 4 cents to $75.71 a barrel, adding to a 21 cent gain on Thursday. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures slipped 2 cents to $72.59 a barrel at 0147 GMT, after settling unchanged on Thursday.
