The 30-share pack Sensex shed 77.94 points, or 0.13 per cent, to close at 58,927. Its broader peer Nifty50 gave up 15.35 points or 0.09 per cent to close at 17,546. The broader market outperformed as BSE midcap and smallcap indices added over a per cent each.
Zee group stocks were high in demand after the proposed merger with Sony Picture, whereas investors booked profits in Neogen Chemicals. VRL Logistics was on a roll ahead of hosting Rakesh Jhunjhunwala’s Rare Enterprises.

TOP GAINERS:
Zee Entertainment: Shares of the media major stole the show and rose 32 per cent to Rs 337.10 after the company announced a merger with Sony Pictures following a boardroom tussle between the management and its two largest shareholders.
VRL Logistics: The logistics player zoomed 19 per cent to Rs 401 during the session ahead of its analyst/investor meeting later in the evening. The company will host Rakesh Jhunjhunwala’s Rare Enterprises later in the day.
Zee Learn: The Zee group firm is expecting some windfall gains from the proposed merger of Zee Entertainment and Sony Pictures. The scrip soared 14 per cent to Rs 15.91 on Wednesday.
Godrej Properties: The realty firm advanced 13 per cent to Rs 1,950 after the company achieved sales of Rs 575 crore in a single day at the launch of the second phase of its project Godrej Woods in Noida.
Nucleus Software: The IT software exporter added 12 per cent to Rs 594.30 ahead of its board meeting scheduled on Friday to consider the proposal for buyback of the fully paid-up equity shares of the company.
Ami Organics: The recently-listed pharmaceuticals was back on the green track after the brief period of consolidation and profit booking. The counter was again in demand and gained 11 per cent to Rs 1,345 during the session.
GR Infraprojects: Shares of the recently-listed company was the radar of investors rallying over 10 per cent to Rs 1,948 as it settled a legal dispute for Rs 12.66 crore.
TOP LOSERS:
Neogen Chemicals: The speciality chemical player tanked 7 per cent to Rs 1,225, as investors booked profit in the company following a sharp 40 per cent rise in the last one month.
Adani Transmission: The Adani Group’s electric utilities player settled at a lower circuit of 5 per cent to Rs 1,558 thanks to its busy schedule of hosting analsys/investors throughout the week.
Shriram City Union Finance: The transportation NBFC shed 5 per cent to Rs 2,188.75 ahead of its scheduled investors/analyst call on Wednesday evening. The company hosted Phillip Capital on Tuesday.
Vodafone Idea: The cash-strapped telecom player fell 4 per cent to Rs 10.39 after Vodafone plc has made it clear that it would not make any fresh equity infusion in its Indian telecom business.
