jhunjhunwala: PM Modi meets billionaire investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, calls him “lively”

MUMBAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today met billionaire investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala at New Delhi, the prime minister said in a tweet.

The prime minister called Jhunjhunwala “lively”, “insightful” and “bullish on India”.

Jhunjhunwala has in the past vociferously defended the Narendra Modi government’s policies and is a known admirer of the prime minister.

The meeting comes in the backdrop of the Indian stock market nearing its lifetime highs. The Nifty50 index has risen close to 140 per cent after the crash in March 2020.

Jhunjhunwala has displayed unceasing bullishness on the Indian economy and the stock market as his personal wealth has soared with the domestic stock market.

Jhunjhunwala is in the midst of launching his own low-cost airliner Akasa Air as he looks to tap into a growing industry that was hit the hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic.
