Tata Motors(up 5.3 per cent), Maruti Suzuki(up 2.41 per cent), TIINDIA(up 0.84 per cent), Exide Industries(up 0.59 per cent) and Bharat Forge(up 0.44 per cent) were among the top gainers.
Amara Raja Batteries(down 1.4 per cent), Bajaj Auto(down 0.47 per cent), Ashok Leyland(down 0.28 per cent) and TVS Motor Company(down 0.25 per cent) were the top losers on the index.
The Nifty Auto index was up 1.34 per cent at 11958.95 at the time of writing this report.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 138.8 points at 18477.35, while the BSE Sensex was up 411.76 points at 61717.71.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 39 were trading in the green, while 11 were in the red.
