Shares of Biocon(up 0.55 per cent), Cipla(up 0.27 per cent) and Lupin(up 0.21 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Laurus(down 4.36 per cent), Abbott India(down 4.01 per cent), Pfizer(down 3.68 per cent), Strides Pharma Science(down 3.62 per cent) and Ipca Laboratories(down 3.04 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 1.46 per cent down at 14384.35.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 58.3 points at 18418.75, while the BSE Sensex stood down 49.54 points at 61716.05.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 16 ended in the green, while 34 closed in the red.
