Shares of Bandhan Bank(up 1.38 per cent) and Axis Bank(up 0.58 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, IndusInd Bank(down 3.37 per cent), AU Small Finance Bank(down 2.38 per cent), Federal Bank(down 1.67 per cent), Punjab National Bank(down 1.52 per cent) and HDFC Bank(down 1.08 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Bank index closed 0.88 per cent down at 39023.25.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 27.05 points at 18017.2, while the BSE Sensex stood down 80.63 points at 60352.82.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 25 ended in the green, while 25 closed in the red.
