Court rules in favour of Britannia over Good Day brand

The Delhi High Court has ruled in favour of Industries after it had challenged oral care maker Good Day over its brand name which is identical to one of Britannia’s mainstay biscuit brands Good Day.

The court has directed the oral care maker to stop manufacturing, selling and advertising Good Day toothpaste.

A spokesperson for Britannia confirmed the same. The court also stated that Good Day is a known trademark of Britannia and protected across all product categories.

Good Day oral care makes three variants of toothpaste under the same brand name, according to information posted on the company’s website.

Britannia, the country’s biggest biscuit company, makes Good Day, Marie Gold and Nutri Choice biscuits, and has been augmenting capacity amid growing demand for packaged foods. The company is setting up a greenfield plant at an investment of Rs 340 crore with annual production capacity of 1.25 lakh tonne. Last year, Britannia had announced stepping up investments in Tamil Nadu to Rs 550 crore over a period of seven years.
