Shares of Biocon(up 1.91 per cent), Torrent Pharmaceuticals(up 1.63 per cent) and Granules India(up 1.51 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Strides Pharma Science(down 3.36 per cent), Glenmark Pharmaceuticals(down 3.1 per cent), Aurobindo Pharma(down 2.95 per cent), Ipca Laboratories(down 2.61 per cent) and Lupin(down 2.29 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 1.28 per cent down at 13621.9.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 100.55 points at 17898.65, while the BSE Sensex stood down 314.04 points at 60008.33.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 16 ended in the green, while 34 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, Tata Power, Tata Motors, ITC and Zomato Ltd. were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
