Stock market holiday: Is the stock market closed tomorrow?

NEW DELHI: Equity, currency, and derivatives markets will be closed for trading on Thursday, March 11 as the Street and the nation will observe Mahashivratri. Commodity markets will be closed for morning session but trading will resume for the evening.

The bourses will reopen for trading on March 12, Friday.

On Wednesday, benchmark indices continued to climb for the third consecutive day tracking gains in peer Asian markets, and amid the progress over the $1.9 billion stimulus package in the US. Barring PSU banks, all sectors closed with gains.

The 30-share pack Sensex added 254.03 points or 0.50 per cent to close at 51,279.51. Its broader peer NSE Nifty advanced 76.40 points or 0.51 per cent to 15,174.80.

Market breadth was in favour of losers as 1,629 stocks ended in the green, while 1,350 names settled with cuts. As many as 213 securities hit 52-week highs, mostly from the smallcap space. Meanwhile, 47 names hit 52-week lows, mostly from the microcap space. About 330 stocks hit upper circuit limits and 225 lower circuit limits.

European markets were trading mixed. London-based FTSE was down 0.14 per cent while Paris and Frankfurt added 0.49 per cent and 0.44 per cent, respectively. In Asia, South Korea, Singapore and China closed in the red while the rest registered gains.
