Want to invest in PPF? 5 things you should know

1. The minimum investment in a PPF account per year is Rs 500 and maximum is Rs 1.5 lakh.

2. Maturity is at 15 years but can be extended by a period of 5 years. One can take loans and partially withdraw up to 50% of the amount at the end of fourth year.

3. Interest is accumulated at the rate of 7.1% (current quarter) and is exempt from tax.

4. Sec 80C benefit for up to Rs 1.5 lakh is available.

5. Joint accounts are not permitted in case of PPF.
