Nifty today: Sensex, Nifty flat in early trade; Emami, Info Edge rise up to 3%

Domestic equity benchmarks started Thursday’s session on a flat note amid buying interest in IT and realty stocks.

The S&P BSE Sensex index rose as much as 26 points to touch 53,080.51 in the first few minutes of trade, and the broader NSE Nifty 50 benchmark fell to as low as 15,849.90, down 29 points from its previous close.

Tech Mahindra was the top Nifty50 gainer in early deals, up 1.25 per cent. Shree Cements, Adani Ports, Bajaj Auto and Wipro were among other blue-chip top performers.

On the other hand, was the top laggard, down 1.67 per cent. ONGC, Hindalco, HUL and were among other losers.

Emami and

gained up to 3% in early trade.

Equities in other Asian markets were trading lower. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was down by 0.17 per cent.

Overnight on Wall Street, the three benchmark indices ended at record highs. Dow Jones gained 0.30% to 34,681.79, while S&P 500 rose 0.34% to 4,358.13. Nasdaq inched up 0.01% to 14,665.06

Meanwhile, in the oil market, crude prices fell for a third day with Brent futures down 43 cents, or 0.6%, at $73 a barrel. US West Texas Intermediate futures were down 51 cents, or 0.7%, at $71.69 a barrel.
