The S&P BSE Sensex index fell as much as 64 points to touch 52,705.49 in the first few minutes of trade, and the broader NSE Nifty50 benchmark fell to as low as 15,793.40, down 19 points from its previous close.
TechM was the top Nifty50 gainer in early deals, up 0.70 per cent. L&T, Adani Ports, Wipro and HCL Tech were among other blue-chip top performers.
On the other hand, was the top laggard, down 0.65 per cent. , HDFC Bank, Axis Bank and Eicher Motor were among other losers.
Just Dial gained 4 per cent, while
tanked 3 per cent in early trade.
Equities in other Asian markets opened lower. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan fell 0.32 per cent.
Overnight on Wall Street, the three benchmark indices settled lower. Dow Jones fell 0.31% to 34,888.79, while S&P 500 declined 0.35% to 4,369.21. Nasdaq shed 0.38% to 14,677.65
Meanwhile, in the oil market, crude prices dropped with Brent futures down 8 cents, or 0.1%, at $76.41 a barrel. West Texas Intermediate was off by 13 cents, or 0.2%, at $75.12 a barrel, having jumped 1.6% in the previous session.
