HDFC Bank (down 2.41 per cent), IDFCBANK (down 1.39 per cent), Federal Bank (down 1.19 per cent), IndusInd Bank (down 1.17 per cent) and Kotak Mahindra Bank (down 0.97 per cent) were the top losers on the index.
The Nifty Bank index was down 1.24 per cent at 35308.75 at the time of writing this report.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 96.9 points at 15826.5, while the BSE Sensex was down 360.25 points at 52779.81.
