The S&P BSE Sensex index rose as much as 204 points to touch 54,758.74 in the first few minutes of trade, and the broader NSE Nifty50 benchmark climbed to as high as 16,338.75, up 59 points from its previous close.
was the top Nifty50 gainer in early deals, up 3.16 per cent. , JSW Steel, Adani Ports and Coal India were among other blue-chip top performers.
On the other hand, was the top laggard, down 1.21 per cent. , Cipla, and Dr Reddy’s were among other losers.
Zomato climbed 3 per cent, while Lupin dropped 3 per cent in early trade.
Equities in other Asian markets gained in early trade. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up by 0.01 per cent.
Overnight on Wall Street, the three benchmark indices settled mostly higher. Dow Jones rose 0.46% to 35,264.67, while S&P 500 advanced 0.09% to 4,436.75. Nasdaq fell 0.49% to 14,788.09
Meanwhile, in the oil market, crude prices crawled higher with Brent futures up 3 cents to $70.66 a barrel, following a 2.3% gain from Tuesday. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose 6 cents, or 0.1%, to $68.35 a barrel at 0136 GMT, adding to a 2.7% jump on Tuesday.
