The S&P BSE Sensex index rose as much as 229 points to touch 58,081.12 in the first few minutes of trade, and the broader NSE Nifty50 benchmark climbed to as high as 17,311.95, up 78 points from its previous close.
Kotak Bank was the top Nifty50 gainer in early deals, up 1.93 per cent. Grasim, RIL,
Motors and were among other blue-chip top performers.
On the other hand, was the top laggard, down 1.77 per cent. HCL Tech, TCS, Tech Mahindra and Cipla were among other losers.
Equities in other Asian markets were mixed in early trade. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was down by 0.21 per cent.
Overnight on Wall Street, the three benchmark indices ended higher. Dow Jones gained 0.37% to 35,443.82, while S&P 500 jumped 0.28% to 4,536.95. Nasdaq added 0.14% to 15,331.18
Meanwhile, in the oil market, crude prices fell with Brent futures down 13 cents, or 0.2%, to $72.90 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell 24 cents, or 0.3%, to $69.75 a barrel
