Shares of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries(up 2.83 per cent), Lupin(up 0.94 per cent), Biocon(up 0.94 per cent), Aurobindo Pharma(up 0.59 per cent) and Torrent Pharmaceuticals(up 0.3 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Dr Reddys Laboratories(down 1.32 per cent), Divis Laboratories(down 0.75 per cent), Alkem Laboratories(down 0.66 per cent) and Cadila Healthcare(down 0.11 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 0.69 per cent up at 14562.2.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 144.35 points at 17790.35, while the BSE Sensex stood up 488.1 points at 59677.83.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 33 ended in the green, while 17 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, Tata Motors, Trident Ltd, YES Bank and Tata Power were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
