As much as 15% of the 710 CEOs, including from MSMEs, fear that half the production could be wiped out with states — ranging from Maharashtra to Uttar Pradesh and Delhi — imposing curbs on movement of people due to a second wave of coronavirus, which has pushed the number of people getting infected in the country to record levels.
To deal with the situation, businesses are devising multiple strategies, from making arrangements for workers to stay for the night to stocking higher levels of raw material.
“Vaccination of all workers (79% respondents) seems like the biggest action item, followed by strong enforcement of SMS (Sanitisation, Mask and Social Distancing) and allowing movement of workers and goods during the night curfew,” the CEOs said in their recommendations to government to deal with the current crisis.
Nearly 93% said more stringent enforcement of safety norms will be helpful, with 96% suggesting their companies were already prepared to implement stricter safety guidelines.
