Sensex scales record high as IT stocks, RIL lift Dalal Street; Nifty tops 15,750

Domestic equity benchmarks scaled new peaks on Monday amid strong buying interest in IT and select financial stocks along with heavyweights such as . The sentiment was upbeat on Dalal Street as some states eased lockdowns and daily Covid-19 infections in the country hit a two-month low, said analysts.

The S&P BSE Sensex index ended 228.46 points or 0.44 per cent higher at 52,328.51 and the broader NSE Nifty 50 benchmark settled at 15,751.65, up 81.40 points or 0.52 per cent from its previous close — both record closing highs.

Adani Ports was the top performer among blue-chip stocks, closing 5.28 per cent higher. power Grid, NTPC, Tata Motors, UltraTech and Shree Cement were among other gainers.

On the other hand, Bajaj Finance was the top laggard, down 4.46 per cent. Bajaj Finserv, HDFC, Divi’s Labs, Cipla and JSW Steel were among other losers.
