Nifty today: Sensex gains in early trade, Nifty above 15,750; Ujjivan, Equitas soar 20% each

Domestic equity benchmarks started Monday’s session on a strong note amid buying interest in financial and IT stocks.

The S&P BSE Sensex index rose as much as 296 points to touch 52,682.49 in the first few minutes of trade, and the broader NSE Nifty50 benchmark climbed to as high as 15,779.15, up 89 points from its previous close.

was the top Nifty50 gainer in early deals, up 1.2 per cent. Grasim, Tata Motors, Maruti and were among other blue-chip top performers.

On the other hand, Bajaj Finserv was the top laggard, down 0.5 per cent. HUL, HDFC Bank and Tech Mahindra were among other losers.

Ujjivan Finacial Services, Equitas Small Finance Bank gained 20% each.

Equities in other Asian markets were showing strength. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up by 0.69 per cent.

On Wall Street, the three benchmark indices ended at record highs. Dow Jones gained 1.30% to 34,870.16, while S&P 500 climbed 1.13% to 4,369.55. Nasdaq gained 0.98% to 14,701.92

Meanwhile, in the oil market, crude prices were little changed with Brent futures for September down 4 cents to $75.51 a barrel. US West Texas Intermediate crude for August was at $74.57 a barrel, up 1 cent.
