Shares of TIINDIA (up 3.12 per cent), Ashok Leyland (up 3.05 per cent), Tata Motors (up 2.97 per cent), Bharat Forge (up 0.93 per cent) and Mahindra & Mahindra (up 0.38 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Amara Raja Batteries (down 2.6 per cent), TVS Motor Company (down 2.4 per cent), Maruti Suzuki (down 2.39 per cent), Balkrishna Industries (down 2.22 per cent) and Bajaj Auto (down 1.43 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 0.44 per cent down at 9956.65.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 69.05 points at 15778.45, while the BSE Sensex stood up 209.36 points at 52653.07.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 22 ended in the green, while 28 closed in the red.
