Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 245.6 points up at 16130.75 amid buying in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Vodafone Idea and Suryoday Small Finance Bank Ltd., touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 44 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 6 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, Titan Company, HDFC, IndusInd Bank, Nestle India and SBI were among top gainers during the day, while JSW Steel, Bajaj Auto, Shree Cements, Tata Steel and NTPC ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 872.73 points up at 53823.36.
Traders piled up positions in Diversified, Gems and Jewellery, IT Enabled Services, FMCG and Shipping sectors, while selling was witnessed in Petrochemicals, Power, Tea / Coffee, Sugar and Learning & Education sectors during the day.
