Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 68.3 points up at 16705.2 amid buying in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Network People Services Technologies Ltd., We Win, Radha Madhav, Rex Pipes and Cables Industries Ltd. and Grand Foundry, touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 39 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 11 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, UltraTech Cem., Hindalco, SBI Life, L&T and Dr. Reddys were among top gainers during the day, while IndusInd Bank, Infosys, M&M, Tata Consumer and Nestle India ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 175.62 points up at 56124.72.
Traders piled up positions in Defence, Diversified, Metals – Ferrous, Glass and Irrigation & Allied Services sectors, while selling was witnessed in IT – Hardware, Petrochemicals, Agriculture/Horticulture/Livestock, Power and Sugar sectors during the day.
