Sensex: Investors richer by Rs 2.5 lakh cr as Sensex surges 514 pts; Nifty ends above 17,200

NEW DELHI: After a day of hiatus, bulls were back in action buying stocks on dips on Thursday. FMCG and IT names were in demand while auto and PSU banks saw profit booking.

Broader market stocks were also buzzing. High-Frequency Indicators are pointing towards an uptick in rail freight, consumer durables and appliances ahead of the festive season, signalling high demand.

The 30-share pack Sensex advanced 514.33 points or 0.90 per cent to close at 57,852.54. Its broader peer NSE Nifty climbed 157.90 points or 0.92 per cent to 17,234.15. Both indices are just shy of their peak.

Equity investor wealth increased Rs 2.51 lakh crore as the total market cap of BSE-listed firms rose to Rs 252.66 lakh crore.
