Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 54.2 points up at 17377.8 amid buying in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as DQ Entertainmnt, Suvidhaa Infoserve Ltd., Nandani Creation, Jiya Eco Products Lt and Yuken India, touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 27 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 22 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, Wipro, HCL Tech, Infosys, Hindalco and RIL were among top gainers during the day, while Indian Oil Corp., IndusInd Bank, ONGC, Britannia and Kotak Bank ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 166.96 points up at 58296.91.
Traders piled up positions in Rubber, Diversified, Textiles, Real Estate and Tourism & Hospitality sectors, while selling was witnessed in IT – Hardware, Petrochemicals, Power, Tea / Coffee and Learning & Education sectors during the day.
